Analysis of Micronutrient Tests for Nutritional Deficiencies in Patients with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

Project description:

Many symptoms associated with EDS/HSD, such as fatigue, pain, and susceptibility to bruising and bleeding, are characteristic of low levels of essential nutrients. Inflammation of the stomach and small intestine, common in EDS/HSD, is known to result in malnutrition. The purpose of this study is to identify the most common nutritional deficiencies in individuals with EDS/HSD as a starting point for potential therapeutic targeting. The output of this project will be a paper published in a leading journal and presented to fellow healthcare providers. Expected duration: __________.

Patient impact:

Nutritional deficiency is one of the easiest EDS/HSD comorbidities to manage, yet it often goes unaddressed. By sharing these findings, we will give both EDS/HSD specialists and non-specialists, such as primary care physicians, a critical tool to support their patients’ nutritional needs. Our findings will also inform future EDS/HSD research on therapeutics.
