The Effect of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatments on Hand Strength and Function
Project description:
Patients with EDS/HSD often have hand weakness. This could be attributed to cervical dysfunction/pathology or to joint position discrepancies/subluxations in the upper extremities. Osteopathic Manipulative Treatments (OMT) have long been used to ease pain, promote healing, and restore alignment. This study will determine the efficacy of upper extremity OMT in improving hand strength and function. Our findings will be published in a top journal, captured in easy-to-use resources for healthcare providers and presented at conferences. Expected duration: _________.
Patient impact:
Hand weakness can have a significant impact on a patient’s functionality and quality of life, limiting the ability to type, grasp objects, and perform tasks that require finger manipulation. Upper extremity OMT are non-invasive and extremely safe. Demonstrating the effectiveness of these treatments in improving hand strength and function would guide clinical practice and improve patient well-being.
